About the Coffee Cup Collaborative
Commemorating the request for
a cup of coffee as the first words spoken in protest against
segregated eating facilities, individual bronzed cups will
be created by North Carolina artists and displayed at strategic
points around the community to build public awareness, promote
conversation, and encourage dialogue among our residents
and visitors. This approach supports the continued revitalization
of the center city and provides an innovative element for
the expanding cultural tourism market as it focuses synergy
around the city’s many historic, performance,
general entertainment and recreational venues.
The commissioning organization, The Coffee Cup Collaborative
Steering Committee, consists of a steering committee representing
the United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, the International
Civil Rights Center & Museum, synerG
(Action Greensboro’s young adult group), the Future
Fund, members of the community and the City of Greensboro
